Getting ready for RTR V12 Nos. 3 & 4

Posted by Customer Support on

Hi folks: Now that Vol 12 Nos. 1 & 2 has been out awhile, I'm getting ready to start another RTR and I'm thinking this issue might have a little more Iowa content that usual. Although it's the next state west from RTR's Home Office in Mendota, Illinois, Iowa has remained somewhat of a mystery to me since I started driving west in the seventies. Nonetheless, the warm welcome I've received there from Rock Islanders, tractor pull fans and Case tractor collectors makes it one of my favorite road trips. And little by little I'm getting my bearings in the...

The new Andover Junction Publications website looks pretty cool, but the hidden gems await those using it. So here's my favorite... We get a lot of calls at the office from those guys that think my photographic memory works all day long, every day. Guys who ask me questions like when was the last time we covered the Rock Island local that ran on the Gorre and Daphited. Or if we have any photos of the DeWitt Clinton shot at Peoria during the 100-year centennial celebration?! Believe it or not, I don't know!So for all you DIY-kinda guys we've done...

RTR Vol. 12 Nos. 1 and 2

January 11, 2018 We're just about done with the next RTR (V12 Nos.1&2) with only final editing, some RPO additions and 4 pages of layouts to clean up. It's a fascinating issue, with some subjects covered that have never seen print, as well as an in depth look at some that have. With any luck it goes to the printer by the week of the 21st. About ten days later the gospel should be drying on the parchment. So what's inside? Regular RTR readers will recognize Bill Leistiko's byline, as items from his post card collection have been subjects in past...

I'm knee-deep into the next RTR (V12 Nos.1 & 2), assembling photos and text for layout. It's a lengthy process that's helped along big time by our authors and volunteer staff members. You wouldn't believe what it takes to bring a magazine from a shoe box full of snaps, and text written on the back of scrap paper to an 80-page journal ready for a critical read. We got a 1890 volume of "Engineering News and Railway Journal" bought on eBay to aid in the captioning process for this and future magazines. What a fascinating glimpse into the budding modernization...

Remember the Rock - June 11, 2017

Posted by Steve Esposito on

Well Rockers, the sun started shining a week ago and it hasn't quit yet! What a relief; I was getting pretty tired of all the cloud cover. Maybe the grass will slow down? We started work on the next RTR and lemme tell ya' it's gonna be a good one. Bill Leistiko and the Missus showed up with a multi part article about Silvis. This is gonna be a comprehensive look at the Rock Island's facility starting from the time the shops were erected. Bill has been digging deep for material and he's come up with solid gold. Got a...
